The beauty of black amber is equal parts beguiling and striking!
Fifteen per cent of amber found in the world is black amber but this is not really a type of pure fossilised tree resin. This has been combined with the fragments of the tree where it came from or other kinds of plant matter. But, it does not make black amber less than interesting.
Black amber is sometimes confused with jet gemstone, a type of coal, and vice versa but black amber usually has another colour when it is held up to the light.
Once the backlight shines through black amber, another colour appears which is often brown, dark red, or blue. Some critics claim that black amber is not really black in the first place due to this particular property. Some even go as far as denying the overall existence of black amber.
The price of black amber is slightly higher compared to common amber although the market has no demand for it right now.
